Lynchburg City Schools awarded $10.5 million for 25 electric school buses and EV chargers
Lynchburg City Public Schools (LCPS) in central Virginia utilized federal funding to purchase 25 electric school buses. LCPS Transportation Director Hope Watts shares that “the abundance of funding is what made this possible.” LCPS received nearly $10 million from the U.S. EPA’s Clean School Bus Program, $500,000 in federal grants for charging infrastructure, and up $1 million from the IRS in federal tax credits. By switching from diesel to electric school buses, the district will save $150,000 per year in fuel costs and more in avoided maintenance costs.
